Eye injury is one of the leading causes of visual impairment in one or both eyes.  Most of these injuries can be prevented by wearing protective eyewear.  On worksites you can be exposed to dust, debris, particles, bright lights or other things that can come into contact with the eye and cause harm.  If you need to be able to remove the protective eyewear often or are in a low risk situation glasses would be best for you.  If you need to ensure that the protective eyewear is always tight and secure, like for welding or chemical work, you would want to consider goggles as they are harder to shift on the face and will not fall off.  Protective eyewear includes safety glasses and goggles, safety shields, and eye guards specially designed to provide the correct protection for the environment you are in. Prescription eyeglasses, contact lenses, and sunglasses do not provide adequate protection in eye-hazardous situations.
